🎶What is your role?
Patrick Murphy – Band Director at Maysville for 25 years (since the 2000-2001 school year).
🎶What is your favorite memory?
"There have been so many amazing moments thanks to our students. Some highlights include qualifying for the state contest in marching band, winning Reserve Grand Champions at the Tri-Valley Show in 2013, receiving a perfect score at the State Concert Band Contest in spring 2024, and most recently, being selected to perform at the State Music Conference in January 2026 – truly an incredible honor!"
🎶Why do you love directing at Maysville?
"When I first came to Maysville, I thought I’d only stay 2-3 years before moving on to a larger program. I had offers, but Maysville quickly became home. My wife, Dixie, and I raised our kids here and have always felt the family spirit of this community. This is home. I have tried to build the program with that same family mindset and I believe it has carried over to our graduates. "
🎶What do you hope your student-musicians take away from your program?
"I hope students take the love of family and the ability to Dare to Dream with them. We hope that every student who leave the program has a love for music and tries to share that love and passion with others. "

"My favorite memories have been at the Backwoods Run. This is a run that is at night. The kids have fun putting on glow sticks and they really like running under the lights. It helps show that you can have some fun during running."
💙 Why I Love Coaching at Maysville:
"I have been an assistant coach for three years and this is my first year as head coach. I was a little nervous stepping up to this role but I have been with these runners for the last few years and they made it easy. Cross country isn't always easy to get students to try but these athletes are willing to put in the time and effort."
🐾 What I Hope My Student-Athletes Take Away:
"I want them to see that if you set goals and work towards them, you can see success. It is so aspiring watching kids who have never ran work and make a goal to be able to run 2–3 miles in a meet and they do it, it is so awesome. Our goal is always to do better, be it not having to walk during a meet or being able to take a minute off their PR."
