Maysville Elementary 3rd Graders Explore Renewable Energy in the STEAM Lab! 💨⚡
The 3rd graders took a deep dive into renewable energy during their visit to the STEAM lab, where they explored how wind turbines generate power! 🌍💡
They were inspired by the story of Qwami Alexander, who built a wind turbine in his village in Africa—showing that one person can make a difference in the world. With that in mind, our students worked in teams to construct their own turbines, with each member contributing an important piece to the build.
To make the process even more efficient, one student from each team used our brand-new ChompSaws to cut cardboard precisely. Once the turbines were complete, teams put their designs to the test using three different wind sources to see how well they could harness the power of the wind!
It was an exciting, hands-on experience that reinforced the importance of teamwork, innovation, and sustainability. Great job, 3rd graders—keep thinking big and making a difference! 🌎✨

Maysville Elementary 2nd Graders Explore Science & Responsibility Through Oil Spill Experiments! 🌍🛢️
Maysville 2nd graders at Maysville Elementary stepped into the shoes of real scientists as they experimented with tools used to clean up oil spills! Through hands-on exploration, students tested different methods—such as absorbent materials, skimmers, and barriers—to understand the challenges of protecting our environment after an oil spill.
During the lesson, the students also learned about Cat Island, a once-thriving habitat for wildlife, which is now nearly gone due to the Gulf oil spill. This powerful discovery reminded us that we all have a responsibility to take care of our world.
By thinking like scientists and problem-solvers, the 2nd graders gained a deeper understanding of how human actions impact nature—and how we can work together to make a difference. Keep up the great work, young environmentalists! 🌿💙
