Dear Parents/Guardians:
Maysville Local School District is committed to the safety and health of our students and staff. We want to inform our families that a student in our middle school has been diagnosed with hand, foot, and mouth disease. This is not an actual disease, but rather a virus that is common in children.
Symptoms usually appear 3-6 days after exposure. Please watch your child for the following symptoms:
Fever Sore Throat Runny Nose Mouth Sores
Rash- most common on hands and feet but can be anywhere.
There is no cure for hand, foot, and mouth disease. Since a virus causes it, antibiotics will not help. It usually goes away on its own after 7 to 10 days. In the meantime, you can help your child feel better with:
Over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen or numbing mouth sprays. Do not use aspirin, because it can cause serious illness in children.
Cold treats like ice pops, yogurt, or smoothies to soothe a sore throat. Avoid juice and soda, which have acids that might irritate sores.
Anti-itch lotion, like calamine, for rashes
Your student may return to school once they have been fever free for 24 hours with no fever reducing medicines and they have no open sores or blisters.
Please notify the school office if your child is diagnosed with hand, foot, and mouth disease.

Mrs. Hann's students had a math challenge where they had to find out how many marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate bars it would take for the whole class to each make a s'more. They calculated the cost of the activity and the number of calories that each student would consume while eating a s'more. During the math challenge, each student roasted their own marshmallow for their s'more. Mr. Blum joined them for this fun learning activity.

La fiesta de Club de español
Maysville HS students enjoyed Mexican Hot Chocolate and other snacks while socializing, decorating the room, making mascaras, and coloring calaveras for Día de Muertos. Día de Muertos is a unique Mexican holiday that honors and respects family and friends' memories, a bit like Memorial Day. Spanish students will be learning more about this in the next couple of weeks as they read books, and watch Coco or The Book of Life!

🐾⚙️Maysville Elementary STEAM Lab⚙️🐾
MES 3rd graders joined Mrs. Baughman and Mrs. Hill in the STEAM Lab to expand their knowledge of "Forces in Motion" through the creation of a Lego throwing arm and basketball hoop🏀. Students worked collaboratively to build and test a variety of heights on both their throwing arm and their basketball hoops and made inferences based on the data that they collected. They discovered that "TOYS" can increase your science knowledge, that the standard height of a basketball hoop is 10 feet, and Legos have even been used by a student-engineer to make a prosthetic arm for himself.
